A Brief History of KIDZ FUN BIZ

Kidz Fun Biz began with Angie Sublime, Chantal ‘The Fairy’ Munro, Lindy–Loo Masters and Miss Deb Hyder in 1995. The concept was born out of a series of holiday entertainment programs Angie was commissioned to organize for Darwin City Promotions. Chantal’s creative input and clown character has helped Kidz Fun Biz take on a momentum all of its own and new themes are constantly being developed to meet the demands of the children who come to watch, and the requirements of the organizations who book the group. This dynamic group offered entertainment of exceptional caliber for any function involving children. Their many different and diverse shows captivated children with total interaction, singing, dancing, magic, games, competitions, circus tricks all interwoven into a story line designed to teach numbers, colours, and safety in a non-threatening and fun way.

Original Shows Touring 1995 - 2000

The Australiana Show
Spike the Echidna, Susi the Crocodile and Joey the Kangaroo gathered together to sing traditional Australian songs and have adventures that led to games galore. An Aboriginal dreamtime storyteller was invited and the characters acted out the stories, Spike even ended up in a toilet seat!

Clowns & Calamity
Fizzy Bliss Bomb, Confetti the Clown and Smartie Squid-features learnt circus skills from the fabulous Amazing Miss Deb - with often disastrous (but always hilarious) results! This show was an hour of solid circus fun with, music, dance and magic.

Fairies & Fables
In this show Bamboozled the paint fairy was forever being put to sleep by Sapphire the Sleep Fairy and the Hyper Fairy was kept busy waking her again and again. With magical tricks, fun and fables, music and song the children learnt many secrets of the fairy realm.

"This show was surprisingly popular with the boys because of the special dynamics of the three fairy characters. Wherever I roamed during the year, many boys quietly came up to me asking if I knew Hyper or Sapphire. When I acknowledged that I did, they generally whispered, 'So do I.' "

Country Cow Bees
Three colourful country cowbees came to the fabulous Fred’s Pass rural show in the Northern Territory and enjoyed fresh air and fun with line dancing, tug of war, games, dances and singing songs with the kids. Even the little Boot Scooting Brumbies came and kicked up their heels with them.

School Daze
With the fabulous Ms Peabody as a teacher, most kids thought this school was great fun. Subjects included Rock & Roll ABC, Show and Tell, Music and Games.

Changes for Kids Fun Biz 2000

By the year 2000 Angie took her cabaret group The Sublimes to the east coast and Kids Fun Biz continued on in the Northern Territory with Chantal “The Fairy” and World unicycling champion Miss Deb. The direction of the troupe changed creating a very unique and successful style of children’s entertainment that was found nowhere else in the industry. In particular, Chantal and Deb combined their diverse array of skills to develop entertaining concerts and self-development programs based on educational concepts and moral values. The proven results of Kidz Fun Biz concerts and self-development programs in dozens of primary and secondary schools signify the benefits of ‘education through entertainment.’

From 2000-2006 Chantal & Deb created and toured a variety of shows

Watch out for the Traffic Monster
Traffic accidents were the leading cause of death for children aged one to 14 years in the Territory. Kid Safe NT and Kidz Fun Biz joined forces to produce an educational and innovative traffic awareness show, which delivers serious information in a fun way. Children were encouraged to consider vital safety issues from various viewpoints by involving them in imaginative theatre.

The Dotty & Candy ShowThis show was for the dog-lovers, it featured Candy the Wonder Dog and ditsy Dotty the Dynamic Dalmatian. Children sang Candy’s favorite song and saw her jump impossible heights and do incredible feats and tricks, all while suffering from her atrocious allergy of coloured spots. What was Dotty doing all this time? (Reeking havoc with her spirited playfulness at all the most inappropriate times). Whilst performing spectacular feats, the dogs informed and entertained children educating audiences on issues such as how to approach dogs safely and owner responsibility.

Double Vision
This was a very glamorous show featuring Miss Deb and her twin sister. The children were amazed as they saw what appeared to be one person performing with her mirror image. The show incorporated music, juggling, unicycle and magic.

Magic & Major Illusion
With a wisp of Fairy dust and a puff of mystical smoke Chantal & Deb were transformed into ”Madam Loyal & Clune” - magicians extra ordinaire. This show was particularly popular with older children as they tried to figure out just how it’s done. This magic show  catered to children and adults using major illusion, music and comedy.

The Spike Gets Down and Dirty Show
Spike the echidna traveled to the city concerned about the effect people are having on his beloved bush land. Rubbish and toxic water ways are affecting his and his friend’s life. Being a total Drama Queen, Spike has a dream about becoming a super hero to combat this problem and tells his tale in a very colourful way. He is found by Ranger Deb who looks after all her Aussie animal friends and tries to teach other people to take care of them too. Ranger Deb is a waste audit fanatic who invents a scientific formula to make everyone clean up Australia. This fails, and she realizes that everyone needs to be responsible for their own rubbish. The audience is encouraged to join Spike the Echidna and re-use, recycle, compost and dispose of waste sensibly.

So Spike was a lot happier, although he had developed a new neurosis. His friend Joey was very loud, and constant exposure to that level of boisterousness made him quite nervous. When Spike got excited he called out: “A big clap and a yay!” and when the kids responded, he got a fright and rolled up into a ball.

By 2007 Miss Deb having put off having a family for several years removed herself from performing and concentrated on raising her two beautiful boys, see her web site www.kidzfunbiz.com. Chantal now continues on the tradition of exceptional entertainment and performs with her son Corin throughout Australia. Click here for current shows.
